What makes VoIP special?

Many people are not able to understand how VoIP can provide far better service than the telcos. If it is really good, questions them, why the phone companies themselves on VoIP have changed not? Finally, they have the resources to do so. How can a small company without that provide huge investments in infrastructure, the same or even better Server service providing these behemoths?

The answer lies in the fact that the old phone, the systems at a time were developed, as was available on the Internet and also in the early days of the Internet, make bandwidth VoIP scarce was far less reliable as today. The core difference is switching and packet switching in the philosophy of the two systems - circuit. VoIP used the latter and therefore it is able to offer a better service. So, what does these two terms?

Telephone systems have been developed for complete reliability. If you place a call to another person, a dedicated line between you two is made. While the call is made, no other person of this line can. It is rented out in a way figures, you from minute to minute why, because you are using a limited resource. While this provides unmatched reliability, it is also enormously wasteful. The reason is, that which is most of the time that a telephone call is executed, no data on sent to the network. This is the price for ultimate reliability. Sometimes get we even a message tell us that all lines on a particular route are employed. "Jammed the lines" are the common set be.

This system is called circuit switching.

Packet switching is on the other hand, what uses VoIP. Instead of creating a single dedicated line between two users, VoIP divides the data into packets and each in its own way separately mixed sends with the other traffic across the Internet. The packages have identification header, so that the receiving system knows what to do and it sets up once again at the other end. With an appropriate Internet connection by today's standards, this works just as well as a normal phone line. Better as fast Internet speeds enable us better encoding and could in fact more advanced features than the telephone system at all.

To use all of us instead of everyone using their own very thin lines connect to each other, a large pipe - figuratively speaking of course. In reality it could take many different ways of the VoIP traffic. And that summed about it. Packet switching vs. circuit switching. The two technologies of VoIP and PSTN system or drive.
