How does VoIP with 911 calls integrate?

Conventional telephone services have always good been integrated with location information. 911 Calls are a staple on every landline and even phones have provisions to identify the position of a person, to allow to call the emergency responders. VoIP is problematic in the extreme as the phone number that is not a safe characters where a person is located. Emergency 911 calls to VoIP must be treated differently if VoIP is concerned and has the FCC itself was to monitor the State of emergency calls on VoIP.

Regular PSTN phones already for a long time and had to therefore time fully with other services and rules - 911 is to integrate one. Each land line phone number is tied to a particular place, and it makes provision, simple and automatic location. A Subscriber is not anything special in order ensure that emergency calls work. You only do. However, VoIP subscribers use currently known as "registered location approach". This means that you opt - in to an E911 service and address register. All calls coming from this range of VoIP phone is then automatically as coming from that location.

This works well for VoIP network, but there are two major problems. The first is of course, that a consumer may simply forget or neglect to register their numbers. In an emergency situation, they are left stranded. The second problem is that VoIP devices are always mobile, and exact location on the road showing a mobile VoIP call, is impossible. For these reasons attempts the FCC standards to develop, this uncertainty can be removed.

A possible solution could be from two ends. The ITSP or even the VoIP provider can implement structures, which can be found the location of VoIP calls. Another level can be added to the broadband ISP level itself, because they provide the underlying Internet connection, making it all happen. This standardization will take a little time and until then, voice user must make sure that they you not registered their devices to make 911 calls, so that they are not stranded in an emergency and wasting precious time. The final standards that are implemented will likely be a mix of different technologies because there is no single way to implement a VoIP connection. The decision for a hosted PBX solution for example not necessary to do everything, but if you create your own VoIP system is it possible an action will be in turn required.
