ITSP (Internet telephony service provider) - SIP trunking needs an ITSP of who is responsible for the IP network to the PSTN for fixed and mobile communication devices. It is also the role of ITSP to transport IP based communications in the Internet or IP network.
The border - the border element is another important component in SIP deployment, as it facilitates the proper connectivity between the PSTN, IP network of the company and the external network. The border is usually in the form of a SIP enabled firewall or a SIP capable device edge (which can be linked also with the firewall). The border can also change or allow transfer of calls to and from the PSTN.
Of course, a company enable SIP must be, hire the services of a SIP trunking provider. Many providers offer today IP-based telephone system packages with integrated SIP infrastructure. SIP providers can in fact, offer according to the existing telephone system in place in a company, a custom package that fits your needs.
The challenges of SIP trunking
SIP trunking is a relatively new technology. Although it already more efficient and less expensive than a methodology is there are some challenges, which companies of must be aware. If your company your current telephone system would like to update by mixing equipment and hardware from different vendors, for example, compatibility problems can occur. SIP protocol must be in a SIP compatible system, which means that according to the current infrastructure, some devices may be updated or purchased must be enabled. Companies must ensure that the SIP with IP-PBX implementation would have connection min. incompatibilities.
The SIP protocol can also possibly lead to security risks. However, to counter this, there is a way to manage the SIP server to ensure that the routing of the communication is correct, and authentication policies are available.
Furthermore, SIP trunking may provide not same quality of lines such as that of the direct PSTN, as this in turn depends on the quality of Internet connectivity. To ensure an optimal quality and continuity, there are however technologies that can be used, to avoid including Bandbreitenpriorisierung for voice traffic and proper provision of links to delays. SIP trunking enables also network monitoring which means that it is a way to find the best route, providing the best quality and most efficient in the telecommunications system.
